Footy grand finals to be broadcast live and on Internet

An historic tie-up between Radio Northern Beaches and Triple H on Sunday 29 August 2010 will result in the Manly A Grade rugby league grand final being broadcast live throughout Manly, the northern beaches, and as far north as Hornsby and Kuring-gai. The games will be broadcast on 88.7fm, 90.3fm and 100.1fm, and will be accessable on the Internet through www.triplehfm.com.au. Triple H has been calling Manly games for several years, and their callers Mal and Tony Dosen will be handling the broadcast on Sunday. The Triple H coverage will commence at 11:30am with the Under 19s between Manly Cove and Belrose, followed by the Reserve Grade Grand Final between Valley and Narraweena, and the A Grade featuring Valley and Narraweena again. The A Grade will be picked up by the Radio Northern Beaches frequencies with coverage expected to commence at 2:45pm.

 
SATURDAY GAMES OFF 31ST JULY

The junior matches this weekend have been called off.

The senior games will be going ahead but there have been major changes to the appointments. Please check them carefully.

 
Former Manly Referee Awarded an MBE

Some of you may remember Brother Andrew Simpson, a referee in the mid 1970s. Br Andrew was awarded an MBE for his services to Education and contributing to the game of Rugby League. During his time with the Association he was a teacher at Manly Christian Brothers, but then later transferred to the Australian Catholic University at Strathfield and then to New Guinea where he has been for the past 20 years.

The Association wishes to congratulate Br Andrew on this distinguished award.

 
Footy is back this weekend!

This weekend was originally set aside for any washed out games, and due to the weather in previous weeks, both Saturday and Sunday will have fixtures. Please check appointments.

Games for the weekend of 5th and 6th June have been postponed as councils have closed grounds.

 
Saturday Games Off 29/5/10


As of 7.10am Saturday morning 29/5/10, all Saturday junior games have been cancelled due to the weather.

Saturday night's game at Ferretville and Sunday games are still on at this point in time.

 
CHANGES TO GAMES

Please check all your games as games are going ahead for tomorrow. Those who were reffing at Harbord Park and Beacon Hill have been moved plus numerous appointments have changed at other grounds.

CHECK THEM CAREFULLY AND THOSE INVOLVED WILL BE NOTIFIED.

All Saturday games for the 22nd of May have been cancelled as of 7am Saturday morning.

A decision on tonights game and Sunday games will be made later on in the day.

 
Passing of Life Member

Dear Members

It is with great sadness I send this message advising you of the passing of a Life Member of this Association. Brian Scanlon, passed away on 17 May 2010.

Brian was made a Life Member in 1966. His funeral will be at St John The Apostle Church, 57 Waratah St Narraweena, on Friday 21st May at 1.30pm. The Association passes on its deepest condolences to the Scanlon family and to Brian's friends.

 
Manly Refs Appointed to Uni Origin Game

17 May 2010

Brendan Lucas and Todd Smith have been appointed to the University State of Origin game this Saturday. Their selection as touch judges comes off the back of their Junior Reps grand final appointment.

Brendan Lucas will also add to his list of Origin games, after being a sideline official in last year's women's State of Origin fixture.

The game between NSW and Qld universities is set down for North Sydney Oval at 1:15pm. The referee will be former NRL official, Sean Hampstead.

 
5 years in a row for Grand Finals

4 May 2010

Brendan Lucas and Todd Smith have kept the Manly Referees grand final record alive by being appointed to Junior Rep grand finals this weekend.

Brendan, his second inter-district grand final appointment, will be running in the SG Ball competition, whilst Todd in the Harold Matthews cup.

Brendan will be running in support for Lawrence McDonnell from Penrith and the other touch judge in that game is Nathan Smith from North Sydney. That game kicks off at 2:00pm, while the Harold Matthews referee is Ziggy Przeklasa-Adamski and the other touch judge is Luke Mungovan from the Central Coast. Both games will be played at St Mary's Leagues Club Stadium.

 
Teddy refs his 100th NRL Game

Former Manly Referee, Steve Lyons, has reached 100 NRL fixtures with his appointment to the Sydney Roosters v Canberra Raiders fixture on Saturday 17 April. Steve refereed his first NRL match in season 2001 in the Round 23 fixture between the Panthers and the Raiders. Since then he has been appointed to solo centres, dual centres and as a sideline official.

 
Saturday football kicks off this weekend

The 2010 Rugby League season is back into full swing this weekend when the juniors return to the field on Saturday. Series one fixtures from under 6s to under 15s will be played at various locations.

This week, Sunday fixtures will be played at Harbord, Forestville, Avalon, Cromer and Curl Curl.

 
Manly Referees in Junior Rep quarter finals

13 April 2010

The four Manly Referees in the Junior development squad will be participating in SG Ball quarter finals this Saturday.

Dom Paton, in his debut season has been appointed to as an in-goal judge, Brendan Lucas, Todd Smith and Laurie Lawira as sideline officials.

 
Round 1 Preview

8 April 2010

Round 1 in Sunday fixtures begin this weekend, and will see the 2009 premiers, Belrose taking on Berowra at Lionel Watts Reserve.

Three other A1 fixtures will also be played in Manly this weekend, with Narraweena to play Asquith at Beverley Job, Avalon will take on Valley at Hitchcock park and Forestville and Narrabeen will kick off 2010 on Saturday night at Ferretville.

In other grades, the U19s clash between Avalon and Cromer will be a rematch of the U17s grand final last year and Mona Vale v Harbord in the U17s is the replay of the U16s finale.

We are also welcoming new referees to our senior ranks. All the best for 2010 to officials, players and clubs.
